Support Data Bundle (SDB) Logging – MX and MG Best Practices – Cisco Meraki

Like the Local Status page itself, Support Data Bundle (SDB) Logging for Meraki Support is another feature that is widely available across the Meraki product line. Able to be generated and downloaded directly from the Local Status page after authenticating, SDB logs are used to provide an encrypted bundle of detailed logging information from a device to Meraki Support, allowing for a snapshot of the device state at nearly any given time. This typically is particularly useful when troubleshooting an unreachable or offline device, or for capturing logging for Meraki Support analysis immediately after an issue has presented.

Integrated DM Logging

Similar to SDB Logging, DM Logging is a method of recording logging specific to cellular communications to provide to Meraki Support for later analysis. Available for select MG devices, this tool again provides an encrypted bundle of cellular logging details that is specifically useful alongside associated SDB logging when troubleshooting a failing cellular connection without the ability to bring the device online via a wired connection.

Summary

This chapter covered the most notable features offered by Meraki MX security appliances, including support for Cisco AMP, TALOS-powered content filtering, Meraki Auto VPN, and Meraki Insight, as well as multiple important aspects to keep in mind both when planning your MX deployment and when operating and monitoring the deployment after the initial rollout.

In addition, this chapter briefly looked at how an MG cellular gateway can provide additional flexibility and connectivity for your deployments, such as providing a robust failover mechanism from a traditional ISP connection or by employing cellular as a primary uplink when a traditional ISP link is either unreliable or unable to provide the necessary level of connectivity.
